House in the Woods

This modern rural home sitting on quaint wooded farm country in Northwestern CT is a humble ode to simple living. Enveloped by deep forest, this project combines three modest rectangular forms to divide its private and public spaces. The familiar shape lends itself to the vernacular architecture of the farming region – simple, elegant gabled structures designed for purpose – while naturally beautiful.

Swaths of high-performance triple pane glass provide a lateral transparency through the home, complimenting the exterior’s natural wood cladding. Precisely placed doors and windows provide opportunities for unparalleled connection to the outdoors, or a chance to be embraced by the cozy interior. Standing seam roofing drag the eyes up to the site’s rural sky. Cathedral ceilings add a comfortable loftiness to this 4,000sf home. Net Zero in mind means that this house will have unbeatable indoor air quality, thermal comfort, and energy efficiency all on top of its incredible views; all year-round.
