California + Westport Net Zero
A Major Renovation and Addition
When a family from California relocated to Connecticut, they found an existing stone and stucco house in need of major alterations and expansion. We started with preserving the major stone portion and converted it into a two-story family room. The old stone walls needed significant restoration and we rebuilt them from the interior out - to be structurally sound, and to provide the needed energy-efficient envelope to achieve a Net Zero. The new portions are set up as gable wings with very modern connections and are built to Passive House standards. Solar panels and a geothermal system will keep energy costs to a minimum.
